Hedonism is defined as: “the ethical doctrine that pleasure, variously conceived of in terms of happiness of the individual or of society, is the principal good and the proper aim of action” (Webster). Eugene Britnell wrote: “In fact, we are under the influence of humanism, materialism and hedonism – and they develop in that order. People turn away from God, come to trust in things, and then use them to serve self and have a good time. Some professed Christians spend more time and money on themselves than they give to the work of the Lord. If we have more presidents, wars, ‘rights’ leaders, etc., America may become one  giant  holiday.  To  many,  the ’weekends’ are looked to as a time to play. Paul called this idolatry, and used the example of the Israelites to warn Christians. He said: ‘Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play’ (1 Cor. 10:7). He further said, ‘if the dead rise not, let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we die’ (1 Cor. 15:32). Millions of Americans, taught to believe that they are animals, do not believe in the resurrection, therefore, they act accordingly. What about you?” (The Sower, July/Aug. 1997).
